Chitika Channels Now Working

Filed under: webcomics, Chitika — DJ Coffman @ 10:31 am

Chitika hasn’t officially announce that their channels are working, but they are. You can go add this code to your chitika ads and you’ll be able to track your individual units for performance. Just replace the “yourchannelnamehere” with whatever you want.

ch_sid = ‘yourchannelnamehere’;

This is a fantastic way to be able to track what products are giving you the highest payouts, and to detect if an ad is not performing at all, you might want to relocate it or delete it all together. Usually when I run a test, I let it go for a week. You have to give it time.

If this is the first time you’ve heard of Chitika, I have a whole category on it here, CHECK HERE for a list.

Troubles posting Chitika in your PHP setups? Here’s a solution

Filed under: webcomics, Chitika — DJ Coffman @ 10:33 am

If you have a problem pasting your Chitika code in a Php engine like Wordpress or your blog, you might search for some plugins for your specific php engine. Wordpress has a code specifically for popping your Chitika ad in your posts. Chitika Wordpress Plugin

Now, if you’re having a problem with it showing in a custom PHP setup, here’s a real simple solution:

#1 make a blank html page with only your Chitika code on it, tweaked to how you want it to look.

#2 make an iframe code and paste it where you want it to go. Here’s a sample iframe code, i put it in a text file since it won’t let me jus display it in here without showing the image: TEXT FILE.

Using Chitika eminimalls on your comic sites

Filed under: webcomics, Chitika — DJ Coffman @ 7:27 am

Today I’m going to talk a bit about Chitika eminimalls. You can see samples of what these ads look like at the end of every post on this blog, or right up top in the thought balloon header. If you’re one of those creators who doesn’t like giving up any space for third party ads, well, this probably isn’t for you, BUT don’t give up on Chitika just yet. I want to cut right through the fat and show you a way to instantly start generating some money for your webcomics. Be it a couple dollars a day, to 30-50 bucks a day, believe me, it’s easily achievable with this program.

Chitika eminimalls allow you to actually target specific products to be shown, as many as you’d like from 1 to whatever. For instance, if I wanted to show an item like a PSP or an Xbox, it could show only that, or I could have it cycle between a bunch of new products. Just about anything sold on Amazon.com is listed through eminimalls. The great thing for webcomic creators, unlike Google Adsense you don’t have to build up $100 before they send you payment. The minimum you have to make is $10, and they pay you through paypal every month. I made my $10 minimum in less than a day. This program would be GREAT for a web comic like “Theatre Hopper” or “Joe Loves Crappy Movies” which are primarily about movies, they could actually show some ads for DvDs with photo covers. Example, Pulp Fiction:

Also, you can now customize the ad units colors to make them match and blend well with your site or the product itself. And you’re not limited to just one type of product, really almost anything sold on amazon.com or shopping.com can usually be shown in your minimall spots. One thing that’s a given, if you have a webcomic, a large chunk of your own audience are other creators, so you can easily show cool art supplies or Wacom graphic tablets, etc, and you don’t have to overdo it for this program to REALLY work for you.

Eminimalls are fairly new, and in experimenting with them I’ve collected a ton of tips on tweaking them out to best perform on your site. I’m going to spend the next few days talking about ways to best use Chitika on your website. First up, you’ll need to sign up at their site to be approved for the program. You’ll hear back usually within 24 hours if not sooner. There’s a lot for me to cover here, so go and sign up now and you’ll be able to put the forthcoming tips to use right away.
